Shin Splints or medial tibial stress syndrome is pain that occurs along the front of the shin bone, usually from overuse, or sudden increase in activity. Shin Splints can originate from certain biomechanical risk factors such as flat feet or excess pronation. Muscle strength and flexibility as well as footwear will also need to be assessed as these can also be risk factors. If you are regularly suffering from shin splints, this is something that will need to be addressed as they can often be a precursor to Stress Fractures. Visit us at Newcastle Podiatry Centre for a comprehensive biomechanical assessment.
